The 1999 Girls Varsity Lacrosse team was the first Overlake girls’ team to win a state title. In the 1990s, girls’ sports were on the rise. Multiple teams were reaching the playoffs, but until the 1999 Girls Varsity Lacrosse team, none had succeeded in clinching a state title. While it was monumental for the girls on the team, it was also motivation for other athletes in the school. Ever since, Overlake has continued to be one of the best girls lacrosse programs in Washington.
